Armored human-faced locusts
Today I learned:
Revelation 9-10 from the New Testament:
“The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months”

YAGNI
An unexpected benefit of the You Aren’t Gonna Need It principle I came upon while working in Cook web is how much more motivated I felt when looking at concrete results earlier in the process. With other projects I created a complete CRUD API for a certain entity (or more than one) and only then I started a front end. This time I created the DB, fed it some recipes, a Read endpoint with the necessary query parameters to search, tests and that was it. I then implemented a simple UI which let me start to visualize the product earlier, which in turn motivated me to keep going. 4 months later I’m working on the CUD aspect of the API but with a basic project already deployed in the web for everyone to see.

Purpose
Lack of purpose leads to lack of goals which leads to a more easily distracted mind.

Happiness
Happiness is in great part made of enjoying the little things. But, a big one, you need a minimum of living conditions to be able to enjoy those little things. Not making any huge discovery here but I find it cruel to tell everyone no matter their condition to just enjoy the little things.

Tranquility
How much more precious (and sometimes difficult to obtain) little moments of tranquility become as years go by. A Saturday or Sunday morning at home having a coffee (or your infusion of preference), preferably in silence or with quiet music. They are just golden.

On loneliness II
From the post about loneliness I am curious if what we are currently experiencing (an atomization of society with increasing levels of suffering due to loneliness) has precedents at some point of history or not. If it is a cyclical phenomenon that has already occurred other times. If anyone reading this knows for yes or no, I would love to know more

Noise
Non-challenging mental tasks requires quiet environment with no music or minimal music at most, like minimal techno. Noise in environment.
Challenging mental tasks requires an environment with emotional, dynamic, energetic music. Noise in environment and mind.

Sharing
A non-negative cause of compulsive social media use is the need to share. Music, movies, memes, something we saw on the street or an event in our lives. I say non-negative because it is a fundamental aspect of each person’s life. But, in an increasingly atomized society where loneliness is growing abundant, sometimes we have no one to share things with in person.
